What is a Still
Life Photo?

Still life is a genre of art that focuses on the depiction of inanimate objects, typically arranged in a deliberate and aesthetically pleasing composition. The term “still life” is derived from the Dutch word “stilleven,” which means “still life” or “motionless picture.” In this genre, the subjects can range from everyday objects like fruits, flowers, utensils, and household items to more symbolic or abstract elements.

Still life compositions are carefully arranged by artists to create visually engaging and often thought-provoking images. The goal is not merely to replicate the objects realistically but to convey a sense of beauty, harmony, symbolism, or narrative through the arrangement, lighting, and composition.
